Adriana Berges (b. 1992, Madrid – Spain) is a painter based in Oslo, Norway. Her artistic practice finds its starting point in landscapes and technology, and brings a particular focus to colour and form. In parallel to her artistic practice, Adriana also reflects on the cultural characteristics of landscapes in both art history and the internet archive in her academic work as Research Fellow at the Doctoral Program in Humanities: Language and Culture in the Rey Juan Carlos University (Madrid, Spain). In 2024, she will be completing her doctoral thesis ‘El paisaje Post-Internet. Pintura, paisajes digitales y estéticas virtuales’ (The Post-Internet Landscape. Painting, digital landscapes and virtual aesthetics) – investigating the “Iconic Turn” in Western images and pictures of landscapes from visual culture.

 

Solo exhibitions include a presentation at PP33 in OsloMet (upcoming, 2024), ‘Mirando al Cielo’ at Habitación Número 34 (2022, Madrid, Spain), and four solo exhibitions at her representing gallery Galería de Arte A Ciegas (2023/2021/2020/2018, Madrid, Spain), amongst others. Selected group exhibitions include ‘Nepotismo Ilustrado IV’ at Modus Operandi (2023, Madrid, Spain), ‘Feat Project’ at 95 Galéria (2023, Madrid, Spain), ‘Ni la tierra ni las mujeres’ at MIA Art Collection curated by Semíramis González (2020, Dubai, United Arab Emirates). Adriana’s work has also been exhibited at Pinta Miami 2023 (US), Justmad Contemporary Art Fair 2023 (Madrid, Spain), FIG Bilbao Print Festival 2021 (Spain). In Spain, her works are part of the public art collection of the City Council of Pozuelo de Alarcón (Madrid) and of the Fundación Venancio Blanco (Salamanca), amongst others. She was awarded the Honourable Mention at the 15th Arte Aparte contest for emerging artists (2023, Jaén, Spain), and the Honourable Mention at the National Painting Award, Mainel Foundation (2022, Valencia, Spain).

 

In 2023, Adriana was a guest teacher at the Bacherlor’s degree programme ‘Teacher Education in Art and Design’ at the Department of Art, Design and Drama at the Oslo Metropolitan University (OsloMet, Norway), and a speaker at the University’s 2024 Kunst- og håndverkskonferansen.

 

In addition to her current PhD Fellowship, she holds a Masters’ degree in Contemporary Art History and Visual Culture from the Autonomous University of Madrid (UAM) at the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía (2016); and a Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts from the Faculty of Fine Arts at the Universidad Complutense in Madrid (2014), including an Erasmus scholarship at the HAWK University of Applied Sciences and Arts (Hildesheim, Germany).

Adriana Berges (b. 1992, Madrid – España) es una pintora Española cuya práctica artística está fundada en la relación existente entre el paisaje y los medios digitales, así como el estudio del color y la forma en sus composiciones. Paralelamente a su práctica artística, Adriana también reflexiona sobre las características culturales de los paisajes tanto en la historia del arte como en el archivo de internet en su labor académica como Investigadora en el Programa de Doctorado en Humanidades: Lenguaje y Cultura en la Universidad Rey Juan Carlos (Madrid, España). En 2024 finalizará su tesis doctoral 'El paisaje Post-Internet. Pintura, paisajes digitales y estéticas virtuales', (The Post-Internet Landscape. Painting, digital landscapes and virtual aesthetics), en la que investigará el "giro icónico" de las imágenes en occidente y las imágenes de paisajes de la cultura visual.

 

Entre sus exposiciones individuales destacan ‘Color y forma’ realizada en PP33 in OsloMet (abril, 2024), ‘Mirando al Cielo’ en Habitación Número 34 (2022, Madrid, España), y cuatro exposiciones individuales en la Galería de Arte A Ciegas (2023/2021/2020/2018, Madrid, España), entre otras. También, entre sus exposiciones colectivas destacan ‘Nepotismo Ilustrado IV’ en la Galería Modus Operandi (2023, Madrid, España), ‘Feat Project’ en 95 Galéria (2023, Madrid, España) y ‘Ni la tierra ni las mujeres’ en MIA Art Collection comisariado por Semíramis González (2020, Dubai, United Arab Emirates). La obra de Adriana también ha sido expuesto en Pinta Miami 2023 (US), Justmad Contemporary Art Fair 2023 (Madrid, España) y FIG Bilbao Print Festival 2021 (España). En España, sus obras forman parte de colecciones como el Ayuntamiento de Pozuelo de Alarcón (Madrid) y la Fundación Venancio Blanco (Salamanca), entre otras. Ha sido premiada con Mención de Honor en el certamen de artistas emergentes 15th Arte Aparte (2023, Jaén, España), y Mención de Honor en el Premio Nacional de Pintura de la Fundación Mainel (2022, Valencia, España).

 

En 2023, Adriana fue profesora de pintura invitada en el programa educativo ‘Teacher Education in
Art and Design’ en el departamento de Arte, Diseño y Arte Dramático en la Universidad Metropolitan de Oslo (OsloMet, Noruega), y ponente en las jornadas ‘2024 Kunst- og håndverkskonferansen’ de la universidad.

 

Además de realizar sus actuales estudios de doctorado, es Máster en Historia del Arte Contemporáneo y Cultura Visual por la Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (UAM) en el Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía (2016); y licenciada en Bellas Artes por la Facultad de Bellas Artes de la Universidad Complutense de Madrid (2014), incluyendo una beca Erasmus en la HAWK University of Applied Sciences and Arts (Hildesheim, Alemania).
